Weekend Rides

Ride Date: 05/03/2025
Ride Title: Death Ride Training Series Ride #1
Depart Time: TBD

Meeting Place: Alpine County Community Development parking lot in Woodfords (same parking lot where the Diamond Valley race meets). https://goo.gl/maps/VGHoimvzGH5GAjod8

Ride Leader: Jennie Hamiter (5303071168)
Email: jenniehamiter@mac.com

Type of Ride: Road
Mileage: 60
Pace: Medium
Terrain: Hard

Description: All club members are welcome as Alta Alpina hosts the Death Ride Training Series for non-club members. The plan is to ride the Kingsbury-Luther loop, weather and road conditions permitting. There will be snacks and drinks mid-ride at rest stops as well as at the end. Club members are asked to help host the training series participants. You’re not expected to be an expert coach, just be positive and helpful and ride with or wait for the participants that are best matched to your speed. This is especially needed at intersections and all the turns through South Lake. Some of you may need to ride a bit slower than you’re used to so that club members are spread out among the participants. We need club members of ALL speeds, so please join us. In particular we need someone to ride with or follow the last rider for each climb, and if we have 2 sweeps then one can sweep Kingsbury, the other Luther. Please contact me if you can volunteer to ride or have any questions, thanks!

Ride Title: Death Ride Training Series Ride #2
Depart Time: TBD

Meeting Place: Bottom of Monitor on the Topaz Side, at the highway rest stop.

Ride Leader: Jennie Hamiter (5303071168)
Email: jenniehamiter@mac.com

Type of Ride: Road
Mileage: 57 max
Pace: Medium
Terrain: Hard

Description: This ride is an option for club members for AACC’s Cyclorama, and it’s also part of the Death Ride Training Series, which is a series of rides for non-club members training for the Death Ride. All club members are encouraged to join us. Weather and roads permitting, we'll meet on the Topaz side of Monitor Pass and ride up over the pass and down the other side. Some riders will turn around there, but the full course is to ride all the way to Woodfords, then return to Topaz. We’ll use the Cyclorama rest stop on the west side of Monitor both directions, and there will be snacks and drinks back at the cars, but you should be able to get back to town in time for the BBQ too. During the ride, as club members we're hosting the training series participants. You’re not expected to be an expert coach, just be positive and helpful, ride with or wait for the participants that are best matched to your speed, and preferably you've ridden all parts of the route before. In particular we need someone to ride with or follow the last rider for each climb, and if we have 2 sweeps then they can each sweep one climb. There’s always a wide range of speeds among the participants, so note you may have to slow down a bit to ride with participants. Please contact me if you can volunteer to ride or have any questions, thanks!

Ride Title: Boca Reservoir to Cisco Grove, Out and Back
Depart Time: 9:30 am

Meeting Place: Historic Boca Townsite, which is a googleable dirt parking lot complete with an outhouse: take Hirschdale road exit off of I-80, head about 1/3 of a mile north, right turn right after the railroad tracks off of Stampede Meadows Rd and look for Townsite sign.

Ride Leader: Jennie Hamiter (5303071168)
Email: jenniehamiter@mac.com

Type of Ride: Road
Mileage: 72 or less
Pace: Medium
Terrain: Hard

Description: Nice scenic route from Boca Reservoir to Cisco Grove via: Glenshire Dr., the beautiful Truckee River Bike Path, Donner Pass Rd. to Donner Lake State Park, South Shore Dr., up the Donner Pass, then left at Soda Springs for a loop of Serene Lakes, then down old 40 to Cisco Grove, and return (72 miles round trip). Note that the last time I rode this route, 2 years ago, the pavement from where we cross I-80 (Soda Springs) to Cisco Grove was VERY rough, so try to either bring fatter tires (>=28mm) or if rough pavement is not your thing consider turning around before we cross I-80. Shorter ride options: return from Donner Pass (41 mile RT), or from Serene Lakes (52 mile RT). Water & restrooms stops at Donner State Park, and a convenience store in Soda Springs at I-80. It’s a club weekend ride, so there will be snacks and drinks at the end. If you have a Strava account you can view the ride and photos in the link below, which also shows the parking spot. As always, if you have questions please contact me!
